Excerpt from newspaper obituary for Col. H.H. Sheets

Col. Henry Harrison Sheets died at his home last night at 10:30 o' clock after an ilness of many months. The deceased was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, September 20, 1872, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Henry Harrison Sheets, of Indianapolis and Lebannon, Tennesse, and was a direct descendant of Thomas Jefferson. He was a founder and Executive Secretary of the National Association for Universal Militray Training. He was generally credited with having been the author of the Plattsburg Military training camp idea, which he suggested to the late General Leonard Wood, who put it into effect.The deceased is survived by his widow, Mrs. Anne Sheets, two children and a brother. Another brother, Major William Stokes Sheets, died only a few weeks ago.

Col. Sheets was a member of the Runnemeade Society, composed of descendants of those who wrote the Bill of Rights and had been nominated for the Order of Charlemagne and The Knights of the Garter. Col. Sheets was a man of sunny, cheerful nature and unfaltering courage and faith and had a large number of friends who held him in the highest esteem. He was generous, sympathetic, and through his life had been constant in his attempt to help others.

Col. Sheets, with Mrs. Sheets and their two children, moved to Fredericksburg about a year ago. Although his health had not been good since he moved there, he had endeared himself to those with whoim he came in contact.
