Christopher Cardozo Fine Art is pleased to offer
this rare and unique collection of Edward S. Curtis master prints
and ephemera.
Included in the offering are rare platinum prints and silver border
prints. Known as Master Prints, these were created by Curtis for
exhibition purposes. In contrast, the silver prints offered were
created to be used as reference prints. Most notably, this offering
includes a number of original, photogravure plate cover envelopes.
In addition to protecting the plate from damage, these envelopes
have the galley print (proof print) affixed to them with notes and
printing instructions written by the master printer and some possibly
by Curtis himself. The printed ephemera includes an original prospectus
for the North American Indian book set. This was used to promote
and sell the set to prospective buyers, with original text included
from the book set. Upon completing the book project Curtis moved
his studio to Los Angeles and worked as a still photographer for
the film industry. Included from this era are three blue-toned silver
prints of Hollywood films on vintage board embossed with Curtis'
studio insignia. Please contact us with any questions you may have
and enjoy the exhibit.
