Original Copper Plate Cover Envelope
An original photogravure plate cover envelope from Edward S. Curtis’ the North American Indian Book project. Specifically, this is the envelope that the original copper printing plate was stored in. Mounted to the face of the envelope is a galley proof that Edward Curtis would have inspected prior to the final printing. In addition to the plate title these envelopes include dates, titles, volume number, plate number and, most importantly, notes by the master printer. Edward Curtis may also have record notes on the envelopes. Each plate cover is unique and one of kind with no two being alike.
